Renta Gains Width as Infrakraft Constructs a New Route in Sundholmen

It’s cold in the wind but warm on the ground as Infrakraft paves one of the new ramps for the new section of Route 41 between Sundholmen and Björketorp. The project, commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration, involves the construction of a new, two-way 2+1 highway with a median barrier along a completely new route, with a total of 4.3 km being rebuilt. It will also be wider, all to improve traffic safety and traffic flow on this important arterial road between Borås and Varberg.
– First, we began with measures to increase capacity for existing traffic in central Horred as part of a related project—a lot of detailed work that is now complete. “The work currently underway between Sundholmen and Björketorp is to create separate lanes for oncoming traffic, and the new route is being built across several fields between Route 41 and the railroad,” says Lena Härdmark, construction engineer and site supervisor at Infrakraft.
“New” Route 41 for Borås Brings It Closer to Varberg
The new route has presented some geotechnical challenges, as the road is being built in a wet area with poor soil conditions. As a result, access roads have been constructed using gravel and log mats to allow for transport by dump trucks. Pumps and power generators have been running nonstop since the project began this spring to improve the soil conditions.
