Spring is in the air for Daniel in Skellefteå
When everything just clicks. When a friend shares a video on Instagram and you apply for the job you just saw. Two days later, Daniel Engström had signed on, and ever since then (ten weeks), he’s been servicing our machines. Our new mechanic, along with service technician Joakim and the rest of the Skellefteå depot, is currently setting up the new depot at Transportgatan 7 —which will open on August 20.
It’s mid-May, and spring in Skellefteå is just getting started—as is Daniel’s tenure with us. But his solid experience has instilled a contagious sense of calm, no matter the challenge. We opened 1.5 years ago, and now site manager Elina has truly put together a strong team of six, all while moving to larger, new facilities. One of them is tire specialist and hunting enthusiast Daniel Engström.
“As a mechanic at Renta, there’s quite a lot to do during the day—if the machine doesn’t need to be repaired, serviced, or refueled, then it’s off somewhere in Västerbotten. Then there’s something up here that poses a challenge to every type of machine with electronics and hydraulics: the cold. It really bites, and it’s a scourge we tackle right here at the depot,” says Daniel Engström, a mechanic at Renta Skellefteå.

If he’s not up at the cabin on the banks of Storforsen relaxing, he’s in the garage with his friends talking about tires. Changing tires. For a solid thirty years, Daniel sold tires to just about everyone north of Bureå; as soon as he headed south of that town, homesickness would take a firm grip on his stomach. That’s how we say it up here.
– I learned a lot during those years—all about the ups and downs, about tires, and how to do business. But most of all, I learned that Michelin is the world’s best tire manufacturer. Here at Renta, I’m now checking our trailers, compressor trucks, and the like to make sure they have the right tires for next winter. After all, the trailer should always have better tires than the tow vehicle, Daniel reveals.
One pest causing problems in Västerbotten is the badger, and on behalf of the government, Daniel hunts them with his hunting dog and an avalanche transceiver: badgers. You’re probably wondering if he ever sleeps—so are we. After all, he’s also a father of three (though they’re adults now) with a happy wife. But the happiest of all are surely those of us who have Daniel as a colleague.
