Lidans Byggservice in Lidköping is currently restoring the Lidbeckska House

It is not Kristian Lidbeck’s house (our real estate agent in Trestad) but rather the Lidköping City Council building that is now being renovated to serve another 150 years of important decisions for the city’s residents; the restoration is being carried out by Lidans Byggservice. Led by Christan Karlsson, the bricklayer who happily showed us around when we stopped by.

Christian’s craftsmanship and enthusiasm are contagious to everyone around him, and here, in the heart of Lisch, it is the joy of craftsmanship that is making up for years of patching and mending. But now it is meticulousness and precision that are doing everything possible to ensure that one of the city’s oldest and most historic houses can double its age. At least.

“We’re building a new facade on a house that was built in 1853. The project naturally comes with various challenges, and now we’re applying old, traditional craftsmanship methods to restore the house to its former glory and strength. “As a mason, it’s projects like these that challenge me and ignite that extra spark; it’s a great honor to get to work on this house. And you’ll see—it’s going to turn out great,” says Christan Karlsson, a mason at Lidans Byggservice.

Has the whole summer to do it

Lidans Byggservice is currently setting up a test area, and with the traditional choice of materials—shorter sheets and lime mortar—janitors will need to empty gutters and downspouts more often.

“We’ve said we’ll have finished by September 10, so we’ll have a buffer in case of frosty nights. But let’s not talk about the cold at this time of year—we have a whole summer ahead of us filled with fun, and it feels absolutely great,” Christian concludes.
