From Inside Sales Representative to Regional Manager – Mikael Johansson’s Journey Within the Company
At age 24, he looked for a job where he could meet lots of people—today, he’s the regional manager who travels around and meets at least as many people. Over the past 15 years, both Mikael and the equipment rental industry have made great strides. We took a stroll down memory lane before deciding to look ahead as well. Welcome to Mikael’s journey at Renta.
The spring of 2008 was a dark time for the construction industry, but in some ways a bright one for the local equipment rental company Stål&Hyr. That spring, the company decided to hire the articulate Mikael Johansson, a native of Halland, for its large Varberg depot.
– For four years, I was the first person the construction workers saw in the morning. As someone who loves meeting people, I got to meet many customers every day—what an incredible time! The core of the depot team that was there back then is still with us today, both at the Varberg depot and within the organization,” says Mikael Johansson, who is now the regional manager for Halland.
Stål&Hyr stepped up its game, and with Dennis, the Renta Adventure began
During Mikael’s first year on the job, Stål&Hyr continued to grow, and Stål&Hyr legend Jörgen Grubbesson offered Mikael the position of site manager for the Varberg depot, which had 20 employees.
– Jörgen needed to take on a broader range of responsibilities, and I felt ready to take on the responsibility of becoming the pit boss. Even though it was hard at first to be the boss of my friends.
Five years later, that same Jörgen asked Mikael if he wanted to become regional manager.
– I accepted a major challenge, and that’s when things really started to take off. This was 2017, and that’s when the whole Renta adventure really began; we hired Joacim as CEO, and in 2018 we opened our location in Halmstad.
Our growth journey became even more real when Dennis from Skåne joined Stål&Hyr just months before Kari from Renta in Finland got in touch and wanted to merge with us.
– Since then, things have moved incredibly fast, and I’ve grown tremendously through this journey. But this is a story all its own, and I’m incredibly glad I said yes to it!
