Björnberget is building in an environmentally conscious way in Östersund
With its large panoramic windows overlooking the vast expanse of Lake Storsjön, Björnberget Bygg is building an environmentally conscious timber-frame house. Larsa Arvidsson, a sales representative at Renta Östersund, stopped by the construction site on Frösön to say hello and learn more about the benefits of wood-fiber insulation—from both the builder’s and the environment’s perspectives.
They say there are many choices and decisions to make when building a home. Especially if it’s not a prefabricated home. This presents both challenges and opportunities, from delivery times to environmentally conscious choices. Johan Lindman at Björnberget Bygg, as a foreman, has extensive experience with timber-frame houses, and the construction project on Frösön is no exception. Or perhaps that’s exactly what it is.
“You end up with a better final product when you build everything on-site, tailored to the location. That way, you ensure that everything is done correctly while also giving the client greater freedom of choice. But above all, it’s more fun—no two houses are alike,” says Johan Lindman, foreman at Björnberget Bygg.
Insulating with wood fiber insulation
During our visit, Johan Lindman and Mikael Arvehed at Björnberget Bygg are hard at work paneling the interior walls and soundproofing them with wood fiber insulation from Hunton. This building insulation consists primarily of wood fiber made from spruce chips sourced from Norwegian forests. The insulation offers superior sound absorption, is more pleasant to work with, and is resistant to aging.
“This is what makes timber-frame houses so exciting to me. Here we have a client who is environmentally conscious, and we have the opportunity to work with sustainable materials. The biggest challenge of the project, however, is the delivery times for the stove and heat pump.” Luckily, this insulation retains heat even better,” says Johan, adding:
– And that Renta will soon be releasing space heaters.
