MTA is lowering the groundwater level as a new neighborhood is built in Ängelholm

Just behind Catena Arena and Rögle‘s home arena, Derome 700 homes, and the new Vegeljung neighborhood. But first, they’re constructing MTA Construction and Civil Engineering including new streets, district heating networks, and a new wastewater pumping station. To lower the groundwater level during the construction of the pumping station, they implemented Renta’s new wellpoint solution.

The sun has just risen, but the construction crew has been here even longer than that. With the geotechnical survey results in hand, we immediately begin drilling holes in the sand with the plastic pipes, which are quickly driven six meters down. Each pipe can handle up to about one cubic meter of groundwater per hour, and a total of 30 pipes are connected to the BBA pump, which in turn can remove up to 90 cubic meters per hour.

– Since the railroad track runs right next to the future pumping station, we dug a ditch that can collect and return a certain amount of groundwater to the ground. “To be able to monitor the entire groundwater drawdown ourselves, we received a thorough crash course on how everything works and how it should be monitored,” says Andreas Rolf, MTA site manager.

New wellpoint system saves time and is easier to control

The pump is equipped with a vacuum sensor; this sensor sends an email notification in the event of a power outage or if vacuum levels drop, allowing MTA to keep a close eye on its worksite.

– In addition, we use a newer type of wellpoint; we use plastic needles instead of metal needles. A plastic needle can be used down to a depth of six meters and gives you easier visual control over the system if it were to draw air instead of water,” says Egor Cherkasov, a pump expert at Renta Skåne, adding: “
” – This saves us all a lot of time since we don’t have to thread anything or screw anything in place. Instead, it’s just plastic pipes, an O-ring, and a manifold—and then the vacuum does its job. This simplifies installation considerably.
