Riksbyggande Strängbetong Hires Locally

They laid the foundation for both Landvetter Airport and Friends Arena and were the driving force behind the iconic Arlanda Tower. Now they are erecting the structural framework—the facade, elevator shafts, and floor slabs—for Sweden’s largest passive house: Tinnerbäckshuset in Linköping. Strängbetong, building everywhere and pushing the boundaries of accessibility across the country.

Just before the Tinnerbäcken stream flows into the Stångån River, along the waterfront, the university hospital of the future is now being built. Linköping has been a hub of innovation since time immemorial, and this new building will certainly live up to that legacy.

– The building under construction is what’s known as a passive house—a building with the absolute lowest demand for purchased heat, electricity, and cooling. Instead, the building is heated by both its equipment and the people inside it. This will make the building, when it is completed in 2024, one of the country’s most energy-efficient hospital buildings, says Ove Olsson of Strängbetong, the project’s installation manager.

The final phase has begun, and when we visited, Ove and the team were in the midst of assembling the third floor; with the holidays just around the corner, it’s all about getting the structure up. And the machinery is rented from Renta.

– It’s great for us now to have a national agreement in place, and even though I’m in Linköping today, my next job is in Varberg. But it’s the same app and service.

What are you renting now?

– Scissor lifts, a folding-boom lift, the occasional telescopic loader, and a whole bunch of strong guys like Arvid.

Strong nationally—but best locally
