The Oscars Neighborhood is being rebuilt once again

Amid the islets and skerries, our cabins have been shipped to Marstrand, where the construction contractor Flodéns is now building a new home for Ernst Rosén in an old-fashioned style that is nearly identical to the original. Here, where King Oscar II spent 20 consecutive summers, 22 exclusive year-round apartments are now being built.

An unusual settlement. A unique project. Richard Nordlinder at Flodéns took us on a journey through the challenges of the island project, but also into what has simply flowed along like running water.

– Even though it’s logistically complicated when we’re completely dependent on the ferry, with high and low tides, weather, and wind. Despite all that, deliveries have gone smoothly. “Since everyone knows it’s difficult to get out there, we plan even more carefully, and that’s how we succeed,” says Richard, adding:

– Hey, Renta, you should consider getting a fleet of vehicles—specifically, an orange ferry at a good price.

While we wait to start renting out ferries, Flodéns rents out 9 sheds, temporary electrical equipment and heating, as well as trailer-mounted compressors and a variety of specialty hand tools for fine woodworking.

Summer in Marstrand—as natural as ice cream

The classic Turisthotellet, later known as Oscars, was completed and inaugurated with great fanfare in the summer of 1899. It is now being rebuilt from the ground up to replicate the original as faithfully as possible, with the goal of completion in 2023. It’s a project that has undeniably attracted attention.

– Yes, we get a lot of curious questions from Marstrand residents passing by, and it’s always fun to work on projects that engage people—projects that also challenge us. Because even though the shipments so far have exceeded expectations, the challenge is now even greater. Summer is Marstrand’s most important season. That’s when we’ll have to be even more creative with the limited number of shipments we’re allowed to send across and find new locations for, say, our sorting rings,” Richard concludes.
