We (Renta) are helping to build Coop’s major project in Eskilstuna
For the food logistics solution of the future—Coop’s massive construction project in Eskilstuna—we are now supplying site huts, electrical equipment, generators, and lifts on behalf of the general contractor, Tommy Allström Bygg. The automated, massive terminal is expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2024 and will supply food to all of Sweden.
Coop’s massive investment in three high-bay warehouses totaling 109,000 square meters will be fully automated and create 400 new jobs (plus 100 during peak season); the new logistics facility—which covers an area equivalent to 20 soccer fields—will have two dedicated railroad tracks. In addition to replacing two older warehouses (Västerås and Upplands Bro), it will supply a total of 800 grocery stores with food products.

The project is valued at approximately 1 billion SEK
– “To start with, we have delivered 50 work trailers and four sleeping trailers, as well as 4 km of 4×240 power cable with a load capacity of 1,600 amps, to the site at the Eskilstuna Logistics Park.” “This is a project estimated to be worth approximately 1 billion SEK,” says Ulf Gunnarsson, a sales representative at Renta.
Construction will take a couple of years, and the facility will then operate alongside the old warehouses for a couple of transitional years. Once everything is complete, store restocking will be fully automated, freeing up staff time so they can focus on helping customers rather than restocking shelves. For e-commerce, the e-commerce warehouse in Kungens Kurva will continue to serve the Mälardalen region, while orders for other locations will be fulfilled at the larger stores. We look forward to supporting the construction over the next few years and then making the occasional customer visit in late summer 2024.
