We’re rerouting the water as Hässleholm gets a new sewer line
Hässleholm Miljö is now installing a new sewer line to ensure service for the next 100 years. To make this possible, we have worked with Renta Pumps to set up a complex bypass pumping system (to move water from A to B). The route is over 500 meters long and connects to one of the three incoming lines to the new wastewater treatment plant on Södra Kringelvägen in Hässleholm.
With a flow rate of 300 l/s over the highway bridge, along the Southern Main Line, and both upstream and downstream, we’ve obviously had to do some very detailed calculations. Renta Pumps (Uprent) are our pump experts who always have a solution up their sleeve, and Armands Birģelis, chief engineer at Renta Pumps, has brought both equipment and expertise with him from Latvia.
– It’s more fun when things are a little complex, and we also have really great local support. “Peter, site manager at Renta Hässleholm, helps with all the day-to-day tasks, and the installation crew in Landskrona has taken care of the construction power supply and road closures, as well as assisting with the installation of the bypass pump,” says Armands.
New Sewer Line on Södra Kringelvägen
Renta Pumps is now installing the bypass pumping system so that Hässleholm Miljö can begin work to protect its wastewater treatment plant against future flooding, reduce inflow into the sewer system, and enable new development in the Björklunda area. This work is part of the long-term measures implemented following previous floods, when water entered the pipes and overloaded the wastewater treatment plant.
“This is an important project that we’ve been planning for a long time, and depending on weather conditions, everything should be completed by the summer of 2026,” says Daniel Borgander, water and sewer systems engineer at Hässleholm Miljö.
Complex bypass pumping where Renta provides comprehensive support
Everything from machinery to concrete barriers, although the bypass pumping system is the most important aspect of this project. Regardless, Renta provides comprehensive support for projects where electrical power is limited. The safest solution for minimizing downtime is to supply the pumps with ground-based power, which our electrical installation department has handled. We’ve also commissioned a backup system using a hybrid setup (battery/diesel) that has saved us from having to lay kilometers of temporary cables and avoid using unnecessary amounts of diesel.
“The most important thing in projects like these is efficiency, and here we’ve calculated the quantities and allocated resources for the project in such a way that we’ve been able to transport the complex pumping solutions to the site in a resource-efficient manner,” says Armands Birģelis, adding: “
” – The Traffic Management Department has also handled, applied for, and established the traffic management plan for the project. All to protect third parties, us, and the 500-meter-long bypass pumping system.
Currently, 300 liters are being pumped per second, and Armands won’t leave Hässleholm until both Hässleholm Miljö and our local installation departments are fully familiar with the operation. One person who’ll be here in five minutes no matter what is our site manager in Hässleholm.
