Brixly keeps track of emissions from rental vehicles
Brixly is building a sustainable future, and in Frölunda, at Altplatsen, a multi-generational housing complex that meets the Silver standard for sustainable construction will soon be ready for occupancy. What makes this project unique is that, for the first time, Jonathan Rignäs and the entire team have been able to assess the environmental footprint of the rental equipment as well.
A grocery store, a gym, 102 senior housing units, and 100 rental apartments involve many different technical specifications and entirely different documents. Here at Altplatsen in Frölunda, every material choice has been evaluated and measured using SundaHus Environmental Data, all with the goal of achieving Silver certification in sustainable construction.
“We’re starting to get the hang of this process—from design to final inspection. We know by heart the environmental impact of a particular material, but we’ve never before known the carbon emissions data behind the machinery we use to install it. This gives us a holistic view, and we’ve learned that the indispensable telescopic handler not only has a smaller environmental footprint but also lasts longer if we handle it properly,” says Jonathan Rignäs, foreman at Brixly.

What is a CO2 equivalent (CO2e)?
Carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) are a way of indicating the greenhouse effect of a gas emission compared to an emission of the same amount of carbon dioxide (CO2). By expressing greenhouse gas emissions in CO2e, it is easy to compare the contributions of individual gases to the greenhouse effect. The conversion is performed by multiplying the emissions (kg) of a greenhouse gas by the gas’s GWP factor.
How Our Calculator Works
The vast majority of our machines are equipped with some form of telematics. This technology enables calculations such as fuel consumption and energy usage. We can also calculate CO2e emissions based on real-time data, thereby ensuring both accuracy and reliability in the best possible way.
Data Source
We rely on the highly regarded European Rental Association’s Equipment CO2-eq Calculator to report CO2e emissions from the machines you have rented. The ERA’s comprehensive database ensures that our calculations are in line with industry standards, allowing you to compare emissions across different machine types and rental periods.
Continuous Improvement
As we continue on our growth journey, the ongoing refinement of our CO2e calculator remains high on our list of priorities. In cases where telematics has not yet been installed, we use average figures to estimate the CO2e emissions for your rented machine. This is a temporary solution, as we are actively working to retrofit older equipment with telematics and ensure the accuracy of our calculations. However, we want to provide you with insight into the smaller portion of the fleet without telematics before you rent, to help you make an informed decision regarding average emissions.
